ALEXANDER MOORE ARBROATH PRISON HORROR: SEX OFFENDER DIES IN EDINBURGH PRISON AFTER 20-YEAR ABUSE SCANDAL

Alexander Moore, an 82-year-old man from Arbroath, tragically passed away in hospital after being found in Her Majesty’s Edinburgh Prison on October 8. His death marks the end of a long and disturbing chapter in his criminal history, which was marked by decades of heinous abuse against young girls.

Back in June 2018, Moore was sentenced to a lengthy eight-year prison term following a conviction for the horrific abuse of three young girls. The court heard that Moore posed a significant and ongoing threat to female children, with his predatory actions spanning more than 20 years. His victims, all girls aged between eight and 15 at the time of the abuse, endured a campaign of exploitation that left deep scars.

Moore’s criminal record was already marked by previous convictions. In 1999, he had served time for crimes committed against young girls, and he was registered on the sex offenders’ register. Despite this, he continued to target vulnerable children, which ultimately led to his latest conviction. The sentencing took place at the High Court in Glasgow, where the severity of his crimes was fully acknowledged.

Earlier proceedings in Edinburgh had established Moore’s guilt on six charges, including rape and lewd and libidinous behavior. The offences took place in Arbroath between 1982 and 2006, a period during which Moore’s victims suffered unimaginable trauma. A jury convicted him of multiple sexual offences committed against the three girls over a span of 24 years. The court heard that Moore raped one of the children on various occasions at a residence in Arbroath from June 2000 to July 2005.

In addition to these crimes, Moore was found guilty of sexually assaulting two other schoolgirls at different locations within Arbroath. The court revealed that he repeatedly raped one of these victims, further emphasizing the extent of his predatory behavior. The abuse began in June 1982, and it was only after the victims courageously came forward and spoke to police that Moore was finally brought to justice.

During his trial in Edinburgh, Moore denied all charges, but the jury took just two hours to reach a guilty verdict on all six counts. The prosecution’s lawyer, Peter Ferguson QC, highlighted that Moore had previously served a three-month sentence for sexual offences and had been on the sex offenders’ register, underscoring a pattern of criminal behavior.

Moore’s defense solicitor, Chris Fyffe, requested bail for his client, but this was denied, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes. Yesterday, Moore appeared at Glasgow High Court for sentencing, where Lord Ericht described him as a “serious risk” to female children, based on a pre-sentencing report. The judge emphasized the breach of trust and the lasting impact on the victims, stating, “It is clear from victim impact statements they are still living with the consequences of the harm that you have done to them.”

Moore’s death in custody concludes a tragic saga of abuse and justice delayed, leaving behind a legacy of pain for his victims and a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children from predators like him.
