STOKE NEWINGTON SEX WORKER RAPIST JAILED
A man has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of attacking sex workers in Lordship Park, Stoke Newington.Alex Humphreys, aged 42 and from Hampden Road, Grays, Essex, arranged to meet a 35-year-old sex worker by agreeing on a fee, then picked her up in his car.
He drove her to a quiet parking lot nearby, where he subjected her to physical and verbal abuse before raping her.
Evidence from DNA at the crime scene led to his identification, and he later pleaded guilty to assaulting another sex worker in the same area within three weeks of the first incident.
Both victims were supported by Open Doors, a healthcare partnership funded by the NHS that provides assistance to sex workers in Hackney and the City, and they testified at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
Humphreys was found guilty of rape on August 1, and on September 13, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for the February 2011 attack in Lordship Park, Stoke Newington.
Detective Constable Kath Watson from the Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command commented: “Alex Humphreys is a dangerous offender who targeted sex workers in London.
I want to acknowledge the bravery of the victims in reporting these crimes and appreciate the role of Open Doors in supporting them through the justice process.”
