ALEX GIBSON FROM GLENFARG SENTENCED FOR THREATS IN PERTH SHERIFF COURT
Alex Gibson, a software engineer residing in Glenfarg, found himself in serious legal trouble after engaging in a pattern of threatening behavior directed at his estranged wife. The incident, which took place over a span of several weeks from October 19 to December 1 of the previous year, involved Gibson sending a staggering total of 257 menacing messages via WhatsApp. These messages ranged from minor annoyances to outright distressing threats, causing significant alarm and fear for his wife. Among the more alarming messages were explicit threats such as, 'I am going to crucify you and take everything you hold dear,' and, 'I’m going to crush you like a bug.' He also issued warnings that the consequences of his actions would be 'incredibly painful,' further intensifying the fear and anxiety experienced by his wife.In addition to targeting his wife, Gibson extended his threatening communications to his sister. On September 1, he sent her 21 messages via WhatsApp, warning her that 'F***ing with me was a bad idea.' These messages underscored the severity of his conduct and his willingness to intimidate family members as well.
The matter was promptly reported to the police, leading to Gibson’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings. During the legal process, Gibson admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, acknowledging the distress his actions caused. It was revealed that at the time of these incidents, Gibson was under considerable stress, suffering from depression, and struggling with alcohol abuse, which may have contributed to his behavior.
Gibson’s employment as a senior consultant for a pensions firm was also at risk due to his guilty plea, highlighting the potential professional repercussions of his actions. The court ultimately imposed a fine of £600 on Gibson and issued a non-harassment order that prohibits him from approaching or contacting his wife for a period of three years. The sheriff overseeing the case acknowledged that the breakdown of Gibson’s relationship and the associated stress were challenging for all involved. However, the sheriff emphasized that Gibson’s threats and conduct created an unpleasant and intimidating environment, and his claims of innocence or denial of carrying out the threats did little to mitigate the seriousness of his actions.
Photographic evidence was presented in court, showing Gibson leaving Perth Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to the charges of threatening behavior. The case underscored the gravity of such conduct and the importance of legal measures to protect victims from harassment and intimidation.
