WINNINGTON MAN JAILED FOR STRANGLING AND TRYING TO SUFFOCATE WOMAN
A Northwich man named Alex Cain, aged 29, residing on Muskett Drive in Winnington, has been sentenced to a total of 27 months in prison for multiple serious offences involving violence and intimidation against a woman.Cain was found guilty of strangling and beating the victim, attempting to suffocate her, and harassing her with threats of violence.
The incidents spanned two separate cases; the first took place on March 25 in Northwich, where Cain faced charges of intentional strangulation and assault by beating.
Although he pleaded guilty to strangulation, he initially denied the assaults, and a trial was set but the assault charges were later dismissed before the trial date.
The second case involved events occurring between August 12 and August 25 at an address in Winsford, while Cain was on bail for the earlier case.
During this period, Cain was charged with additional offences including another count of intentional strangulation, a count of intentional suffocation, assault by beating, and harassment with threats of violence.
He pleaded guilty to these charges during a hearing at Chester Magistrates Court, which led to his remand in custody.
At his sentencing hearing at Chester Crown Court on October 2, Cain was handed a sentence comprising two consecutive 12-month terms for the strangulation charges and a three-month sentence for harassment, totaling 27 months.
Furthermore, he received two two-month sentences for the suffocation and assault charges, to run concurrently.
A restraining order was also issued to prevent him from contacting his victim, and he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
