ELDERLY SCOTS PENSIONER JAILED FOR DECADE-LONG SEXUAL ABUSE OF SIBLINGS
A Scots pensioner who carried out sex attacks on a brother and sister for nearly a decade has been caged.Alan Williams, 74, was described as "despicable" and "disgusting" by a sheriff before he was jailed for four years and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life.
On Wednesday, Sheriff William Wood stated that it was evident from the victims' testimonies that Williams, who was considered a trusted family friend, had caused them severe trauma.
The so-called "predatory" paedophile from Walker Court in Aberdeenshire was convicted by a jury of all three charges he faced.
Despite his conviction, Williams continued to deny any blame for the abuse.
The sheriff emphasized that Williams was in a position of trust over the children, which he systematically abused over a prolonged period.
The first incident occurred in 1999, with the latest in 2008.
Evidence showed that he assaulted the boy multiple times between 1999 and 2005 and also committed sexual offences against the girl, who was nine when the first incident started in June 2004.
The offences took place in Perthshire and Angus.
Williams was found guilty of numerous lewd and indecent acts against the children over this period.
His defense counsel, solicitor John McLeod, argued for a community-based sentence, noting that Williams did not have malicious intent and that his risk level was comparatively low, being before the court for the first time.
During sentencing, Sheriff Wood condemned Williams' conduct as "despicable" and "disgusting," highlighting the betrayal of trust and the prolonged nature of the abuse.
