FORMER SOLDIER JAILED FOR NINE YEARS FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF LOVED ONE
A 38-year-old man from Antrim, formerly serving in the military, named Alan Norman Foster, has been found guilty of murdering Pauline Carmichael.Court proceedings revealed that Foster lifted Ms Carmichael onto his shoulder while she was still dressed in her pajamas and subsequently threw her from a bridge that measured approximately 40 feet in height.
Her body was discovered on the shoreline of Lough Neagh in February 2015, showing signs of drowning along with multiple injuries, including a fractured bone in her throat and several broken ribs.
Foster admitted to the killing, and the judge described his actions as 'particularly callous' and 'wicked.' Foster’s military background includes service with the Royal Irish Rangers in Bosnia, Iraq, and Northern Ireland, where he was exposed to the stresses associated with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Despite expressing remorse and pleading guilty, he was sentenced to a minimum of nine years in prison before being eligible for parole.
The court emphasized the violent and premeditated nature of the crime when delivering the sentence.
