ALAN DELANEY: EVIL CHILD SEX PERVERT FROM HOUNSLOW AND PORTLAND REVEALS SHOCKING REINTEGRATION INTO COMMUNITY
In August 1996, a disturbing case emerged involving Alan Delaney, a man whose name became synonymous with one of Britain’s most heinous child sex offenders. A judge publicly condemned him as one of the country’s most depraved predators, yet astonishingly, he was found to be living openly among children just one month after serving an 11-year prison sentence.Delaney, who was once dubbed the 'lieutenant' of Britain’s largest child sex ring by police authorities, was released from incarceration last month after completing only half of his sentence. His release sparked concern and outrage among community members and victims’ families alike. Our investigative team at the Sunday Mirror managed to locate him shortly after his release, following contact from a mother whose sons had fallen victim to the notorious sex ring.
Witnesses observed children, ranging in age from 11 to 17, frequently visiting Delaney’s residence in Portland, Dorset. His home, a modest white-washed semi-detached house valued at approximately £50,000, is situated near a bustling community center used regularly by Scouts and Guides every Wednesday night. The house’s proximity to such community activities raised alarm among local residents.
On one occasion, a girl around 14 years old was seen sitting on the doorstep with a teenage boy, casually playing with a box of condoms before being invited inside. Other children, some of whom played with Delaney’s pet chihuahua, would then enter his home and remain behind the curtains for extended periods, sometimes up to five hours. In a further disturbing incident, a teenage boy accompanied Delaney on a 20-minute walk along the scenic clifftop of Portland Bill, a well-known landmark.
What was particularly alarming was the ease with which children entered his home—none of them had to knock, as the front door was left unlocked, allowing them to walk straight in without resistance. This casual access to his residence raised serious questions about the safety and oversight of children in the community.
Delaney, aged 56, was previously convicted in 1989 after a lengthy police investigation uncovered a widespread paedophile network across the country. His involvement in the ring was part of a larger operation that saw over 140 children, some as young as nine, subjected to sexual abuse. At that time, Delaney was residing in Hounslow, Middlesex, and was sentenced along with three accomplices to a combined total of 34 years in prison.
His convictions included conspiracy to commit buggery, indecent assault, taking indecent photographs, and attempted buggery. During his trial at the Old Bailey, the court was told that Delaney, who wore glasses, often posed as a cleaning company boss, luring young boys with offers of odd car-cleaning jobs for pocket money. He also volunteered to train children at a local junior football club, further disguising his true intentions.
Despite his outward appearance as a benign figure—a kind uncle type—Delaney’s real motives were far more sinister. Children who were welcomed into his close-knit circle were gradually manipulated into prostitution and then passed around to other perverts within the group. These vulnerable boys were enticed with promises of money, drugs, gifts, and holidays, only to be subjected to a sickening series of sexual abuses. Once exploited, they were discarded onto the streets of London, often traumatized and scarred for life.
The ring was finally dismantled after a telephone engineer, while installing a phone in Delaney’s bedroom, discovered a hidden photograph album behind a cabinet. The album contained hundreds of incriminating photographs, providing irrefutable evidence of the abuse. Following this discovery, Delaney and his co-conspirators were arrested and brought before the court. Judge Henry Pownall, QC, condemned their actions, stating they had carried out “an unspeakable wholesale corruption of young boys.”
In the aftermath, a mother who assisted in tracking down Delaney expressed her deep concern and anger. She revealed that she had known Delaney for four years, initially welcoming him into her home as a friend who played football with her sons. However, she later uncovered his true nature as a monster intent on corrupting her children. Her emotional account underscored her fear that he remains a danger to children, even after his release from prison.
She stated, “I knew Delaney for four years. Once I welcomed him into my home with open arms as a friend who played football with my sons. But behind his mask of civility was a monster intent on corrupting my young ones. When I discovered he had been released, I cried. I wept because I know him and I am frightened of him and I know he will be a danger to children until his final breath. I fear for the mites. It doesn’t take much of a leap of the imagination to know that these children are in jeopardy.”
The woman, who resides in West London but requested anonymity for legal reasons, criticized the justice system for releasing Delaney early. She emphasized the importance of community awareness, stating, “I believe people have a right to know when a convicted pervert moves into their community. This is what I am doing, and Delaney was one of the most evil paedophiles the nation had ever seen. In prison, his door would be locked but out on the streets, his front door is always open to youngsters.”
Her message was a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Delaney, whose past crimes continue to cast a shadow over communities. The case underscores the critical need for vigilance and community involvement in safeguarding children from predators who may seek to re-enter their lives after serving time.
