ALAN DAVIES FROM BARGOED AND RHYMNEY VALLEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND SEX OFFENCES
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the South Wales community, Alan Victor Davies, a 52-year-old former teacher from the Rhymney Valley, was brought before Cardiff Crown Court to face serious charges related to the possession of child pornography and historical sexual offenses involving minors.Davies, who had served as a supply teacher in the Rhymney Valley for over two decades, was found to have a disturbing collection of illicit videos and photographs depicting children. The police investigation uncovered more than 100 videos stored at his residence on Park Drive in Bargoed, some of which explicitly featured minors. Additionally, authorities discovered a briefcase containing further videos and an envelope filled with photographs in a bedroom used by Davies at his sister’s house in Fleur de Lys, raising concerns about the extent of his illicit activities.
During the court proceedings, Davies admitted to possessing 11 counts of indecent material. He also revealed to police that he maintained an interest in adult pornography and had even advertised such material in magazines, indicating a pattern of behavior that extended beyond the possession of illegal content.
It was also revealed that Davies had a troubling history of sexual offenses against children. Notably, in 1992, he was involved in an incident where he incited an eight-year-old girl into an indecent act, further underscoring the severity of his criminal record.
The court heard that Davies was socially inept and led a lonely, isolated life, factors that may have contributed to his offending behavior. Judge John Griffith Williams QC, the Recorder of Cardiff, addressed Davies directly, stating, “You are and will remain a paedophile unless something is done about it.”
In sentencing, the judge imposed a community rehabilitation order for a period of three years, with the stipulation that Davies attend a specialized program designed for sex offenders. Furthermore, Davies was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from potential harm.
