MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC ASSAULT ON HIS MOTHER LEAVING HER IN A COMA
Alan Clegg, a 42-year-old man with no fixed address, carried out a brutal attack on his mother that resulted in her being placed in an induced coma. The assault occurred on Boxing Day, December 26, 2024, at her residence in Frodsham.
During the violent episode, Clegg inflicted serious injuries on his mother and persisted with the assault despite her pleas for mercy, leaving her unconscious on the bedroom floor with no means to contact help.
Following the attack, he demanded funds from her, which she transferred in hopes of ending the violence.
After he left her incapacitated, he returned later to find her still unable to move.
Later, Clegg contacted a former partner to arrange transportation for himself, violating a restraining order that her family had obtained against him.
The next day, December 27, his mother was able to alert her family and call emergency services, who rescued her in her pain and distress.
Police tracked down Clegg at a hotel in Runcorn and detained him on charges of assault, possession of cocaine and cannabis, and breaching the restraining order.
She remained in hospital with multiple injuries and was concerned he might try to reach her there.
Clegg admitted guilt and was sentenced to serve 10.5 years imprisonment, with a further 3.5 years on extended licence.
Restraining orders were also imposed to safeguard his victims.
Authorities condemned his violence, highlighting the long-lasting harm caused to the victim and her family, and reaffirmed their mission to remove such offenders from public spaces to ensure justice is served.
