ALAN BLANCHARD FROM BALBY SENTENCED IN DONCASTER FOR HISTORICAL SEXUAL ABUSE CASES
In a significant development in the ongoing fight against sexual offenses, Alan Douglas Blanchard, a man originally from Balby, has been subjected to additional sentencing after new allegations of historical sexual abuse surfaced.The case was brought before Doncaster Crown Court on Wednesday, 10 January, where Blanchard, aged 63, pleaded guilty to charges of sexually assaulting a child during the period from 2003 to 2008.
Blanchard, who is currently incarcerated at Wakefield Prison, had his sentence extended by an additional three years.
This extension is to be served consecutively, meaning it will run alongside his existing 12-year sentence, effectively increasing his total time behind bars.
The court's decision underscores the seriousness with which the justice system treats cases of sexual abuse, especially those involving minors and historical allegations.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Alison Shields expressed her commendation for the victim who came forward.
She stated, “I have nothing but praise for the brave individual who came forward to disclose the horrendous abuse she suffered.
The victim, like her counterparts in Blanchard’s original trial, has shown exceptional strength in speaking out, and this courage enabled officers to compile a strong case against Blanchard.” DC Shields emphasized the importance of victims coming forward, saying, “I hope the victim is able to take some comfort from justice being served, and the fresh conviction encourages other people who may have suffered historical sexual abuse to come forward and report it.
We will listen to you, support you, and be rigorous in our investigations, in order to bring perpetrators to justice.” It is noteworthy that Blanchard was previously convicted of rape and sexual assaults by a jury at Doncaster Crown Court in 2010, highlighting a troubling pattern of offending behavior.
The recent developments serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address and prosecute sexual crimes, regardless of when they occurred, and to ensure that justice is ultimately served for all victims involved.
