AL WINFINDALE JAILED FOR RAPE IN SCARBOROUGH: NORTH YORKSHIRE MAN SENTENCED

A man from North Yorkshire has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of raping a woman in Scarborough. Al Winfindale, aged 39 and residing on Ewart Street, pleaded guilty to the serious charge of rape prior to his trial, which was held at York Crown Court. The incident in question took place in Scarborough during the year 2022, marking a distressing chapter in the local community.

Following his guilty plea and subsequent trial, Winfindale was handed a prison sentence of five years and five months on July 26. In addition to his incarceration, he was mandated to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further offenses.

The victim, whose identity remains protected, has been left profoundly affected by the assault. She described feeling "violated, degraded and completely worthless" in the aftermath of the attack. Despite more than a year passing since the incident, she continues to be deeply shaken and finds it difficult to share her experience with loved ones, highlighting the lasting trauma caused by such crimes.

Detective Constable Nicholas Burton of North Yorkshire Police, who led the investigation, commended the victim’s resilience and bravery in coming forward. He urged others who may have experienced sexual assault or rape to seek help and report their experiences, regardless of how much time has elapsed.
