PRISON WORKER JAILED OVER SEX ASSAULTS ON STAFF
A staff member at a prison has received a prison sentence exceeding four years after being convicted of sexually assaulting colleagues.Aiden Evans, 30 years old from Turnberry Court in Bentley, admitted to nine counts of sexual assault and two counts of attempted sexual assault during his court appearance at Sheffield Crown Court.
He was subsequently sentenced on Friday to 49 months in prison.
The police indicated that Evans' misconduct occurred at his workplace at HMP Moorland near Doncaster, as well as at social functions held at other venues.
Prison governor Simon McDonnell responded by saying, "All reports of such behaviour are taken very seriously, and we work closely with authorities to ensure that offenders face appropriate penalties." He added, "Evans' actions were completely unacceptable and are in direct conflict with the core values upheld by prison staff." An investigation conducted by South Yorkshire Police’s anti-corruption unit identified several victims who detailed their experiences.
During interviews, Evans claimed his actions were simply "banter," but inconsistencies in his responses emerged as investigators pressed him further, police explained.
Detective Constable Scott Jarvis noted, "Although Evans denied the allegations initially, the extensive evidence and the testimonies of victims led to his eventual confession." He emphasized, "Without those who came forward, he might have continued his predatory behaviour for longer." Furthermore, Evans received several lifetime restraining orders preventing him from making contact with the individuals he assaulted.
