MAN JAILED FOR FOUR YEARS FOLLOWING ATTEMPTED RAPE OF TEENAGER
A man received a four-year prison sentence after attempting to sexually assault a teenage girl while she was sleeping at her home. The incident occurred in October 2020 when the girl woke up to find Aiden Battye on her bed, trying to remove her underwear and carrying out an attempted rape.
At that time, Battye was 17 years old and was asked to leave the house after the victim’s family were informed of the assault.
Following an investigation by the Darlington Safeguarding Team, Battye, now aged 21, faced charges of attempted rape.
He was also accused of a second sexual offense involving another underage girl.
Battye denied both charges but was convicted of attempted rape after a week-long trial at Durham Crown Court in October.
The jury acquitted him of the sexual assault charge.
