AIDAN HOBSON, 25, WHO RAPED A VULNERABLE WOMAN AFTER HE SPOTTED HER DRUNK AND HELPLESS IN THE STREET HAS BEEN LOCKED UP FOR SIX YEARS
A RAPE victim preyed on after being found collapsed in the street has told of her devastation at the attack which has ‘turned her world upside down’.Vile Aidan Hobson, 25, spotted the woman drunk and lying helpless in the road when he picked her up and took her to his home and attacked her.
The woman, who raised the alarm after waking up at Hobson’s address the next morning, wrote in her victim impact statement that: “He had a choice to help me or harm me.
He chose to harm me.” A court heard how the victim’s family launched a missing person’s probe after she didn’t return home from the night out.
In a victim impact statement read to Leeds Crown Court the woman who cannot be named, said: “He had a choice to help me or harm me.
He chose to harm me.
He has changed my view of the world.” The victim said: “He has ruined my life and turned my world upside down.
“I just lie there overthinking, trying to piece things together.
“The thing that eats away at you is the guilt.
You blame yourself – why did I go our that night?
Why did I drink so much?
Why did I dress that way?” Hobson – who had been out drinking – denied raping the woman on April 25, 2015, but admitted he had little recollection of the night.
He was found guilty following a trial.
The court heard the woman had been left “emotionally scarred” by the attack and has had to move away from Leeds as she feared seeing Hobson again.
Jailing ‘depraved’ Hobson for six years, Judge Robin Mairs said: “It matters not whether the woman was drunk or sober.
“Nothing gives you the right to use her for your sexual pleasure, which is what you did.
“It would have been readily apparent the state she was in.
“She has been scarred by it – not just physically but mentally.
It has utterly devastated her life.” Hobson was also told he must sign the sex offenders register for life.
Detective Inspector Charlotte Hails, of Leeds District CID, said: “Hobson’s treatment of the victim was utterly depraved.
When most people’s instinct would have been to help someone in a vulnerable state, he saw the opportunity to exploit her.
“His actions have had a hugely traumatic impact on the victim and we hope it will provide some degree of reassurance to her to know he has now been convicted and sent to prison.”
