WIGAN MAN WHO STALKED AND INTIMIDATED A WITNESS AVOIDS JAIL
Magistrates informed Aidan Bryan that only his last-minute guilty plea prevented him from receiving a harsh and immediate custodial sentence. He had initially denied repeatedly harassing a specific woman and attempting to persuade her to withdraw a statement during January and February.
The Wigan bench stated: “The offence of witness intimidation undermines the core of the criminal justice system.
If defendants were permitted to behave in this manner, the rule of law would collapse.
We recognize that you pleaded guilty, but this plea was only made on the day of the trial.
There was ample time beforehand to seek advice and change your plea.” Bryan, aged 28 and residing on Oak Avenue, Golborne, was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he is required to pay costs and a victim surcharge of £478.
