ADRIAN HARRIS FROM DOLGELLAU CAUGHT WITH INDECENT IMAGES AT COLLEGE CARETAKER SENTENCED
In a case that has shocked the community of Dolgellau, Adrian Harris, a 44-year-old assistant caretaker at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, was found to possess a significant number of indecent images of children on his personal computers. The incident came to light in March when computer forensic experts identified suspicious activity linked to a website known for distributing such material. The authorities quickly acted upon this discovery, leading to a detailed investigation that uncovered Harris's involvement.According to the prosecution, the website in question was shut down following the initial findings. However, further analysis of the server logs revealed that Harris had been downloading indecent content from December 2008 through January of the following year. Police officers subsequently seized two computers from his residence in Ardd Fawr, Dolgellau. Examination of these devices uncovered a disturbing collection: one computer contained 68 indecent images depicting children aged between 10 and 15 engaging in sexual acts with adults, while the other held 88 similar images.
During police interviews, Harris initially denied any knowledge of the images. However, he later made full admissions, confessing to possessing the indecent photographs. His court appearance followed, where he faced multiple charges, including one count of possessing indecent photographs of a child, 21 counts of making such photographs, and one charge of possessing an extreme pornographic image.
At Caernarfon Crown Court, Harris was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail, but the sentence was suspended for two years. The judge, Merfyn Hughes QC, emphasized the seriousness of the offense but acknowledged Harris's efforts to address his behavior. As part of his sentence, Harris will be under supervision by probation officers for the duration of the suspension and is required to register as a sex offender for seven years.
Gareth Roberts, representing Harris, expressed remorse on his client's behalf, stating that Harris was “ashamed” of his actions. Roberts added, “He has brought shame upon himself and his family. His relationship with his partner has been significantly affected by his behavior.” The case has left many in Dolgellau contemplating the impact of such offenses on the community and the importance of vigilance in protecting children from exploitation.
