PROMINENT GOLF JOURNALIST CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEENAGER
Adrian Green, a former England golf captain and journalist, was found guilty of carrying out a sexual assault on a teenage boy after meeting him at a bus station and treating him to a weekend in St Andrews. The court heard Green paid for the teenager to attend a golf event and stay in a hostel for two nights, after which they traveled to Montrose where the assault occurred.
Green, who resided on Katherine Street, Darlington, was convicted by a jury of performing a sex act on the 16-year-old while he was sleeping and unable to consent.
The victim reported that he had not wanted the sexual activity and was shocked by Green's actions.
Green, who had previously captained England schoolboys and worked as a golf correspondent for the Northern Echo, claimed he met the youth randomly and believed he had consented, asserting that the youth had welcomed his advances and was happy with what was happening.
The court delayed sentencing for social work reports and a liberty order assessment, and Green was granted bail.
His online biography states he was selected as England Schoolboy captain in 1978 and played on the amateur circuit alongside well-known players, having played 73 times for Durham County.
