CHELTENHAM SEX OFFENDER ADRIAN BOON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

In November 2017, Adrian Boon, a 38-year-old man from Cheltenham, was sentenced to seven years in prison at Gloucester Crown Court for sexually abusing two young girls over a decade ago. Boon, a father of two, resided at Chepstow House on Princess Elizabeth Way in Cheltenham. Despite denying the allegations, a jury convicted him last week on four counts of sexual assault committed against the girls between October 2004 and November 2007.

Prosecutor Brendan Moorhouse detailed the nature of the abuse, revealing that Boon exploited his position while playing computer games with the victims. Moorhouse explained, “He said she was not to tell anyone of her ‘special hugs,’” highlighting the manipulative tactics Boon used to silence the victims. The case came to light in 2015 when the victims’ families reported their suspicions, leading to Boon’s arrest. During police interviews, Boon maintained his innocence, claiming he had done nothing wrong and suggesting that the families had fabricated the allegations against him.

Following his conviction, Boon was remanded into custody and appeared again in court for sentencing. Judge Jamie Tabor QC addressed Boon directly, emphasizing the profound impact of his actions. “The consequences of your behaviour have been devastating to your two young victims, devastating for your mum and dad, devastating for your wife, your children, and your larger family,” the judge stated. He criticized Boon’s decision to deny the offences and refuse to show remorse, noting that an admission and apology could have mitigated his sentence.

Judge Tabor also classified Boon as a sexual offender of particular concern due to the severity of the offences against one of the girls. This classification means that Boon will not be eligible for automatic parole after serving half of his sentence. Instead, his release will depend on the Parole Board’s assessment of whether he still poses a danger to children, which could result in him serving the full seven years.

In addition to the seven-year term, Boon received an extra year on parole license and was ordered to sign the sex offender register for life. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community, especially to children in Cheltenham and surrounding areas.
