LONDON MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR LONG-TERM STALKING IN CHELMSFORD

A 28-year-old man named Adama Suktuna-Waggeh, from London, has been given a 12-month prison sentence after being convicted of serious stalking and harassment. Over an extended period, he targeted a woman in the Chelmsford area, following her home, making unwanted sexual advances, and approaching her despite her clear objections. The victim stated she had to alter her daily routines, work schedule, and avoid public transportation in order to evade him. Suktuna-Waggeh was known to wait for her on her commute, sitting nearby or remaining visible to her, and on one occasion, he made sexually suggestive gestures. He also tracked her home after her night shifts, with one incident involving him following her into a dark underground car park, only leaving when she pointed out nearby CCTV cameras. Despite repeated requests to stop, he persistently asked for her phone number and sex. The woman described her experience, saying, “The stalking has made me worried constantly, and I have to stay alert all the time. I had to check that this man wasn’t following me and stalking me. I kept looking over my shoulder and making sure he wasn’t following me to work. Every time I took the train, I felt anxious, fearing he might be there waiting for me. Before his arrest, I was staying late at work or going in late to avoid him.” Initially denying the allegations, Suktuna-Waggeh pleaded guilty during his trial at Chelmsford Crown Court in September. On October 7, he was sentenced to a year in prison and was also issued a five-year restraining order with strict conditions to prevent him from contacting the victim. Detective Inspector Victoria March highlighted the importance of safeguarding victims from such persistent behavior, noting the case was particularly alarming due to the duration and obsessive nature of the stalking.
