ADAM SMITH FROM GLENROTHES SENTENCED FOR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR AND ONLINE CRIMES

A man from Glenrothes, identified as Adam Smith, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison following a series of disturbing and abusive actions directed towards his former partner. The case was brought before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, where Smith appeared via video link from Perth, on a Thursday.

Smith, aged 22, pleaded guilty to a pattern of conduct that was deeply harmful and controlling. The court heard that his abusive behavior spanned nearly a year, from March 1, 2020, to January 16, 2021, at an address in Glenrothes. His actions included manipulating his ex-partner’s choices, such as controlling her manner of dress, and making offensive and degrading remarks towards her.

Furthermore, Smith engaged in highly disturbing online conduct. He met the victim through the internet and engaged in video calls during which he encouraged her to harm herself, a tactic that added a severe psychological toll. His threats extended beyond her, as he also issued violent threats against her family and friends, creating an environment of fear and intimidation.

The court was informed that Smith’s behavior was not only emotionally abusive but also included physical threats and coercion, which significantly impacted the victim’s well-being. His actions exemplify a pattern of controlling and violent conduct that has caused considerable distress to those involved.

In delivering the sentence, the court emphasized the seriousness of Smith’s conduct, which involved both online harassment and physical threats.
