ADAM EDWARDS FROM CLYNDERWEN PUNISHED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER PENNY BARTON IN PEMBROKESHIRE

In a case that has shocked the community of Clynderwen, Pembrokeshire, Adam Edwards, a man originally from Rosebush, was handed a significant prison sentence of four years and two months following a violent and sustained assault on his former partner, Penny Barton. The incident, which took place in Clynderwen, was characterized by extreme brutality and left Ms. Barton with multiple injuries, both physical and emotional.

According to court proceedings, Edwards subjected Ms. Barton to a relentless seven-minute attack that involved a series of aggressive acts. He repeatedly punched her in the arms and face, demonstrating a clear pattern of violence. During the assault, he also pulled a duvet over her in an apparent attempt to shield himself or perhaps to control the situation, but continued his assault by poking her in the face and holding her head against a wall, which resulted in her earrings being dislodged. The violence escalated further when Edwards headbutted her and brandished a knife, threatening to take his own life in the process.

In addition to these acts, Edwards bit her ears, forcibly opened her mouth, and struck her head against the wall and a nearby television, causing significant injuries. During the attack, Penny Barton managed to make a 999 emergency call, and her screams were audible on the line, highlighting the severity of the situation. Emergency services responded promptly, and Ms. Barton was taken to hospital where she received treatment for multiple injuries, including scalp bruising, abrasions, bruising behind her ear, as well as bruises on her lip and arm.

Throughout the proceedings, Edwards admitted to slapping Ms. Barton but denied the more severe allegations of punching and biting, claiming that he lost his temper during the incident. The victim described her trauma as feeling akin to being hit by a car, and she revealed that she continues to suffer from nightmares that have profoundly affected her daily life. She expressed her distress by stating she cannot look at herself in the mirror and has even put her house up for sale, indicating the lasting impact of the assault.

It was also revealed that Edwards has a criminal record comprising six convictions for seven different offenses, including previous assaults and threats, which underscores a pattern of violent behavior. During sentencing, Judge Paul Thomas emphasized that Edwards' anger over Ms. Barton's infidelity did not justify his violent actions, reinforcing the seriousness of his conduct.

Furthermore, Edwards was involved in another violent incident after Ms. Barton returned home with a man she had met following a night out. During this subsequent assault, he used fists to strike her head, arms, and body while shouting abusive language, including calling her a 'whore.' This additional episode further illustrates the ongoing nature of his violence and the threat he posed to her safety in the community of Clynderwen.
