ADAM DALLAS FROM RUTHERGLEN SHAMES HIMSELF IN GLASGOW CHILD ABUSE CASE
In March 2008, a disturbing case emerged involving Adam Dallas, a support care worker from Rutherglen, who committed a heinous act involving a six-year-old girl. The incident took place at a residence in Moodiesburn, Glasgow, where Dallas was entrusted by the child's parents to care for her during their absence.Dallas, aged 54 and residing at 50 Springhall Court in Rutherglen, pleaded guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court to charges of engaging in lewd, indecent, and libidinous conduct towards the young girl. The court heard that the offense occurred sometime between March 1 and March 10, 2007, during a period when Dallas was supposed to be providing support and care.
The court proceedings revealed a deeply disturbing sequence of events. Dallas, described as a bachelor living alone, was known to the child's family and was considered a trusted caregiver. On the day of the incident, after a trip to the shops with the girl, Dallas invited her into the house. Once inside, he undressed himself and, in a shocking display of misconduct, asked the young girl to squirt ointment on his private parts. The court was told that Dallas then rubbed the ointment into himself while the girl watched, an act that constitutes serious sexual misconduct.
Prosecutor Liam Haggart explained that Dallas, who suffers from a skin disorder requiring the use of creams, did not attempt to hide his nudity. Instead, he made the girl hold the ointment bottle and instructed her to squirt it on his private areas. Afterward, he rubbed the ointment into himself as the child observed. Following this, Dallas dressed and the pair watched television together, seemingly attempting to downplay the incident.
Later, the child's mother noticed the smell of cream on her daughter's hand. When the girl disclosed what had happened, her mother was shocked but initially tried to minimize the situation out of concern for her child's well-being. The matter was promptly reported to the police. During police interviews, Dallas admitted to being naked during the incident and acknowledged that his actions were wholly inappropriate.
Defense lawyer Sheena Fraser highlighted that Dallas's guilty plea spared the young girl from having to testify in court, which was seen as a mitigating factor. Despite this, Sheriff Robert H Dickson made it clear that bail would be denied due to the serious nature of the offense and the breach of trust involved. Dallas was remanded in custody, with sentencing deferred until the following month to allow for background reports and a risk assessment. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders' Register as a result of his conviction.
