ABRAHAM LEE SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE IN CANTERBURY
A 49-year-old man from Canterbury has been sentenced to prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses, including rape and the abuse of young girls, with incidents dating back to the 1980s. Abraham Lee, whose residence is on South Street in Canterbury, was found to have engaged in sexually abusing young girls over a prolonged period, acts which have left many of his victims deeply traumatised. The sentencing took place at Canterbury Crown Court, where Lee appeared to receive punishment following his conviction on multiple counts. His convictions include eight charges of indecent assault, one charge of indecency with a child, and a charge of rape. The court's decision was announced after a thorough trial, which concluded in May, during which the evidence against him was deemed clear and compelling.
Judge Adele Williams presided over the case and sentenced Lee to a term of 14 years in prison. In her remarks, she emphasized the severity of his crimes and the strength of the evidence presented. She noted that the convictions were based on undeniable proof, leaving no doubt about Lee’s guilt.
Representing Abraham Lee was his barrister, Christopher Sutton-Mattocks, who communicated that Lee continues to deny the charges despite the verdict. Judge Williams acknowledged Lee’s steadfast denial and expressed hope that during his time in prison, he might come to recognize the gravity of his actions and seek the necessary support and help that may aid him in addressing his behavior.
The judge also highlighted the disturbing nature of the offenses by stating, “There is no doubt you like to sexually indulge yourself with little girls, the evidence could not be clearer.”
The legal proceedings also resulted in additional measures to protect the community. Lee has been placed under a sexual offences prevention order that prohibits him from residing in any household with a child under 16, or having such a child at his premises without a parent or guardian present. Furthermore, he is required to remain on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life. He is also barred from working in any capacity involving children.
During the sentencing, Judge Williams commended the police and investigators for their diligent and meticulous investigation, which contributed significantly to securing the convictions.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of the justice system to bring predators like Abraham Lee to account and to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and harm in Canterbury and beyond.
