SHEFFIELD RAPIST JAILED AFTER FOLLOWING WOMAN HOME AND ATTACKING HER
A suspect responsible for a grievous sexual assault has been imprisoned following his act of following a woman home and raping her.
Abiola Tijani, 30, resident of Cherry Street in Sheffield, pursued a woman he was unfamiliar with to her residence and attempted to engage her repeatedly during the early hours of Saturday, July 29.
He then forcibly grabbed the woman, pressed her against some railings, and committed a sexual assault.
The woman’s bravery in reporting the attack led to a police investigation by South Yorkshire Police.
Tijani pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to 12 years and three months in prison at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday, November 9.
A lifelong restraining order was also granted, barring him from contacting the victim.
The judge commented: "No sentence I give will undo or fully compensate for the harm you caused.
What you did is every woman’s worst nightmare." Police Constable Sarah Frith, overseeing the case, said: "The victim demonstrated great courage throughout this ordeal.
I admire her strength in supporting her case.
South Yorkshire Police takes every rape report seriously, and we hope this sentence provides some justice for her."
