Seven men who subjected two young girls to horrific abuse in Rotherham have been sentenced to prison for their vile crimes. The offenders—Abid Saddiq, Mohammed Sadiq, Ramin Bari, Mohammed Amar, Yaser Ajaib, Mohammed Siyab, and Tahir Yasin—appeared in Sheffield Crown Court and faced the victims, one of whom declared to them, 'You are your karma.' The men were previously found guilty of a series of serious offences.
Amar, 42, from Elizabeth Way in Rotherham, was convicted of two counts of indecent assault.
Ajaib, 39, of Walker Street, was found guilty of indecent assault.
Siyab, 34, from Stevenson Drive, was convicted of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, two counts of rape, and trafficking for sexual exploitation within the UK.
Saddiq, 43, formerly residing in Rotherham, was convicted of indecent assault on a girl, rape of a girl under 13, and two counts of rape.
Yasin, 38, of Burngreave Street in Sheffield, was guilty of eight counts of rape.
Sadiq, 49, from Richard Road in Rotherham, and Bari, from Batemoore Road, Sheffield, were also sentenced for multiple rape offences committed against two girls aged 11 to 16 who were in care when they were abused in the early 2000s.
The prosecutor described how the defendants would meet or collect the girls from care homes, offering them alcohol and cigarettes, then persuading or sometimes coercing them into sexual acts via car journeys.
The victims, especially one who was abused from age 11, bravely read impact statements expressing their suffering and resilience, with one stating, 'You started to pass me around like I was a piece of meat.' The court handed down extended prison sentences: Saddiq received a 25-year sentence with a 24-year custodial period plus a one-year extended license, and an indefinite order against contacting victims.
Sadiq was sentenced to 16 years with 15 years in custody and a one-year license.
Bari and Yasin received nine and thirteen years respectively.
Amar and Ajaib also received extended sentences of 16 and seven years, respectively, with the latter also given a one-year license.
Siyab was given a 25-year custodial term with a one-year extended license.
The National Crime Agency's Stuart Cobb stated that these offenders were manipulative, grooming their victims into harrowing abuse, and that justice was served with their sentences.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation, and the victims' bravery has been commended by authorities.
