SPECIAL CONSTABLE WHO STALKED HIS MARRIED EX-LOVER AND PUT TRACKING DEVICE ON HER CAR IS JAILED FOR 12 MONTHS
The 37-year-old Abdul Salam, from Dundee, Scotland, wanted revenge after feeling rejected when Razia Azhar ended their illicit sexual trysts - which they had started a decade after their first relationship ended. The former special constable stalked his secret lover for months before she became suspicious about him and set up a honey trap to catch him out and confront him.
Today, Salam was jailed for a year and made the subject of a lifelong non-harassment order, after Mrs Azhar told Dundee Sheriff Court she was living in fear of him.
Sheriff Lorna Drummond stated that Salam pled guilty to following her over two or three months, going to her children's school and the gym, texting her husband pretending she was having an affair, and placing a tracking device on her car.
His behaviour was planned and demonstrated an elevated level of concern for risk to her.
Salam had set up an elaborate scheme to convince Mrs Azhar's husband that she was cheating, including posing as 'Samantha' to report her movements.
He admitted to engaging in stalking from April 1 to June 7, 2019, which involved following her, placing a tracking device on her car, and harassment.
He was sentenced to jail for one year and a lifelong non-harassment order.
The court heard Salam used a GPS tracker branded 'Rewire Security' on Mrs Azhar's vehicle, with DNA evidence linking him to the device.
The incident was fueled by revenge following their breakup, which had involved a relationship starting in 2008.
Salam had previously been involved in an affair, which he claimed caused devastation to his wife, but he stated he had managed to keep that together.
The court described his actions as deliberate and related to his obsessive concern for her safety and reputation.
