MAN WHO RAPED ANOTHER MAN IN HOTEL ROOM JAILED
A man who assaulted another man by rape inside a hotel room in Burton-on-Trent has been sentenced to seven years in prison.Aaron Tugwell, aged 26 and from Rugeley, received his punishment at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday, October 16, after being convicted of two counts of rape and one count of causing a man to engage in sexual activity.
The incident took place in October 2022.
Tugwell brought the victim to his hotel room where he then sexually assaulted him.
After the assault, when the survivor attempted to leave, Tugwell tried to persuade him to stay, but the victim decided not to.
The survivor subsequently took a taxi home and contacted the police about what had happened.
Tugwell was detained the following day and denied the allegations during police interviews.
Specialist officers from the rape and serious sexual offences unit (RASSO) worked diligently to support the victim and gather evidence that led to charges against Tugwell.
Despite his denials in court, a jury found him guilty of all charges after a trial held in July.
As part of his punishment, Tugwell will be registered on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
