AARON KUEMPEL FROM CHELFORD AND HANDFORTH ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD ABUSE IMAGE SEARCHES
In April 2017, a man with a disturbing online history related to child abuse was spared a prison sentence and instead received a community order from the courts.Aaron Kuempel, who was previously residing in Chelford and has since moved to Hunters View, Handforth, appeared before Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court to face serious allegations involving indecent images of children.
Kuempel, aged 23 at the time, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent photographs of children aged between seven and 13 years old.
Additionally, he admitted to possessing a prohibited image of a child.
The court was informed that police had discovered Kuempel with access to a significant collection of illicit images, including 173 Category C images, 134 Category B images, and 246 Category A images, the latter being classified as the most severe and disturbing.
During the hearing, Daniel Gaskell, representing Kuempel, described him as a socially isolated young man suffering from learning difficulties.
Gaskell explained that Kuempel had become increasingly isolated and had turned to viewing disturbing images online, often without fully understanding the harm caused.
He emphasized that Kuempel’s condition contributed to his actions and that he lacked empathy, but also noted that the proceedings had helped him recognize his situation and his need for support.
Gaskell further argued that Kuempel was unlikely to benefit from rehabilitation in the prison system, asserting that he was capable of following instructions and would adhere to any court orders.
The defense highlighted Kuempel’s willingness to change and his potential for rehabilitation outside of incarceration.
Judge Tina Landale, presiding over the case, sentenced Kuempel to a three-year community order.
The court also mandated that he complete rehabilitation and participate in group sessions.
As part of the court’s measures to protect the public, Kuempel was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.
Furthermore, a seven-year sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) was imposed to restrict his access to children and online platforms.
Judge Landale addressed Kuempel directly, stating, “From the information that you have provided to the doctor and probation service, it is clear that you didn’t believe that there was anything wrong with looking at little children being raped and abused by adults.
That is something that you must understand is totally wrong.
Little children need protection from adults.
They are not there to be raped and sexually touched by grown-ups.” She added that her decision to avoid imprisonment was based on her belief that Kuempel was genuinely willing to change his behavior.
However, she warned that any further offences would result in revocation of the order and a return to prison.
Additionally, Kuempel was prohibited from subscribing to any online sharing platforms during the duration of the SHPO, aiming to prevent further access to harmful material.
