AARON COULSON SENTENCED IN OSWESTRY FOR SEXUAL ACTS WITH 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN MOLD COURT
In a case that has drawn significant attention, Aaron Coulson, a 21-year-old resident of Gibbons Street in Oswestry, was convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a minor and subsequently sentenced in Mold Crown Court.The incident involved Coulson having unprotected sex with a 14-year-old girl, an act that took place only two weeks after he had sought medical attention for a sexually transmitted disease he had contracted.
The court heard that Coulson's actions were not only illegal but also deeply troubling given the circumstances.
The teenage girl was subjected to invasive medical tests to determine whether she had contracted the infection, which she found to be an embarrassing and distressing experience.
Despite the sexual encounter being described as consensual, the court recognized that Coulson exploited the girl, viewing her as an object to satisfy his own sexual desires.
At the initial sentencing in September of the previous year, Judge John Rogers QC, sitting at Mold Crown Court, sentenced Coulson to one year in prison.
He also ordered Coulson to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.
The judge emphasized that while the act was technically consensual, Coulson's conduct was morally and legally reprehensible, given the age of the victim and the circumstances surrounding the case.
However, the case did not end there.
The matter was brought before the Court of Appeal in London, where the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Judge, reviewed the sentence.
During the hearing, Lord Judge described the original sentence as “unduly lenient” and decided to double Coulson’s prison term to two years.
This decision was influenced by the gravity of Coulson’s actions, especially considering the recent medical consultation he had undergone for his sexually transmitted disease.
The case was also highlighted by the Attorney General, Mr.
Dominic Grieve QC, who believed that the initial sentence was insufficient given the seriousness of the offense.
The case underscores the importance of appropriate sentencing in cases involving minors and sexual misconduct, especially when exploitation and abuse are involved.
Coulson’s case remains a stark reminder of the legal and moral responsibilities that come with respecting the age of consent and protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
