DISGUSTING BEAST THROWS BOILING WATER OVER HIS PARTNER
A man described as a "coward" and a "bully" subjected his partner to multiple acts of violence, including pouring boiling water over her from a kettle and punching her in the head when she accidentally kicked him.He also elbowed her in the face during another assault.
Phillip Hanlon, aged 43 and from Cardiff, caused significant distress to his girlfriend by subjecting her to ongoing physical and verbal abuse.
Their relationship lasted three years before the abuse was reported to police.
At a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday, it was revealed that the victim was mopping her floor at her residence in Grangetown when the defendant ran down the stairs, shouting, "What the f*** are you doing?" She replied she was cleaning the floor, to which he retorted, "Hurry up you mongo(sic) c***, I want more coffee, have you made it yet?" The victim testified that she was holding a boiled kettle when Hanlon grabbed her hand and pulled it, causing the hot water to spill onto her leg.
Prosecutor Jenny Yeo explained that she was wearing joggers and the boiling water blistered her skin, which eventually came off.
Hanlon later asked her to show her injuries to a friend, urging her to display her leg and saying, "Show him what I did to you." On October 17, 2021, after returning from walking her dog, the victim was met with Hanlon shouting, "F*** off, you're a mongo(sic), you're slow, I'm going to kill you." He pushed her onto a settee, causing her legs to fly up and leading her to accidentally kick him in the stomach.
She apologized, but he threatened, "I'll f****** kill you." Hanlon then punched her in the head, pulled her to the floor, and threatened to break her ankles before delivering a second punch.
The following day, he elbowed her in the face while walking through a door she was holding open, an act she said was unprovoked and painful.
Hansen Street, Butetown resident Hanlon was arrested and initially denied the assaults, claiming self-defense.
He later admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm and two counts of assault by beating.
Court records showed prior convictions for robbery, assault, and domestic battery.
Prosecutor Yeo highlighted additional incidents, including grabbing a woman by the throat and kicking a dog repeatedly.
In a statement read aloud in court, the victim expressed her feelings of betrayal, questioning how someone she loved could hurt her.
She mentioned her fears about trusting men again and her intentions to move away from Cardiff to escape Hanlon.
During mitigation, lawyer Richard Ace said Hanlon had received letters and money from the victim while in remand, and that he suffers from depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
He expressed remorse for his actions.
Judge David Wynn-Morgan sentenced Hanlon to 16 months in prison, noting that men who hit women are cowards.
The judge described him as a bully and ordered he serve half his sentence in custody before being released on licence.
