DUNDEE OFFENDER MCQUINN SENTENCED FOR ABUSIVE CONDUCT
Jordan McQuinn, a man from Cross Street, Barrow, has been sentenced to prison for strangling his former partner. The incident occurred on March 2 of the previous year, when McQuinn became overwhelmed with jealousy after encountering his ex-girlfriend, who was showing him her newly bought vehicle.
According to prosecuting lawyer Ms Pilling, the woman was gasping for air and experiencing a burning sensation in her throat during the attack, which was described as forceful.
A witness, her friend, saw the assault from another room.
McQuinn surrendered to police two days later.
Since October 2023, he has been receiving mental health support and ongoing therapy through the Barrow Community Mental Health team.
The court heard that incarcerating him temporarily might hinder his ability to participate in probation programs, as he is currently on benefits but working to establish a business involving drone photography licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority.
Judge Maher sentenced McQuinn to 14 months' imprisonment, criticizing his lack of insight and remorse.
The assault has profoundly affected the victim, who now checks CCTV daily and feels unsafe in her home, which she has lived in for four years.
She expressed a desire to leave Barrow to start anew.
The court was also told that McQuinn has 21 previous convictions for 39 offences, including several domestic violence crimes in 2018, 2020, and 2024.
The relationship between the parties had ended in February 2024 after starting in summer 2022.
The court recounted how McQuinn forcibly entered her home, grabbed her neck for 10-15 seconds, and pushed her towards the stairs, causing her distress and physical discomfort.
