A man from Bristol has received a 13-year prison sentence after being convicted of assaulting his former partner and causing lifelong scars.

Gordon Maddocks, aged 60 and residing on Catherine Mead Street, was reported to have kicked, punched, and head-butted the woman during a "brutal and prolonged assault," according to police statements.

The incident occurred in April of the previous year, resulting in facial injuries that required medical hospitalization for the victim.

Following his conviction, Maddocks was also issued a restraining order to prevent any contact with the woman.

He appeared before Bristol Crown Court and was found guilty of grievous bodily harm, two counts of actual bodily harm, criminal damage, and the malicious disclosure of a private sexual image intended to cause distress.

Detective Sergeant Tim Mullins commented on the case, stating, "This was a violent, sustained assault on a vulnerable woman who sustained severe injuries and was scarred for life." He also praised the victim's courage, noting, "This prosecution was only successful because of the bravery of the victim who reported the incident and supported the investigation through to its conclusion." Mullins added, "I am pleased with the sentencing today, as it underscores that domestic violence in any form will be addressed firmly and does not go unpunished."
