MIGRANT JAILED FOR FORCEFUL PUBLIC KISS ON SUICIDAL WOMAN
A Kuwaiti migrant named Zayed Alanzi, aged 26, was sentenced to 12 months in prison after he forcefully kissed a woman in Hull who was suicidal and refusing to go back to the asylum hotel where he was staying.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 28 near the Royal Hotel, where Alanzi was residing at the time.
The woman, who was an unknown stranger to Alanzi, reported that he ‘would not take no for an answer’ and harassed her openly in the street.
She described feeling ‘violated’ after Alanzi grabbed her cheeks, squeezed her face, kissed her on the mouth, and forced his tongue inside before she managed to wrestle him off.
During his trial, Alanzi, who is married, denied the offence, claiming through an Arabic interpreter that he only attempted to help the woman to her feet and that she had consented to the kiss.
However, the magistrates dismissed his defence and sentenced him to 12 months in prison, with additional orders to register as a sex offender and to pay £187 in costs.
It is expected that he will serve less than half of his sentence.
The case has raised concerns about the use of hotels to house asylum seekers, especially in city centers.
Following his conviction, deportation proceedings may now be initiated against him.
The incident was first reported by The Sun, which noted that the woman had made it clear she wanted to be left alone and that the assault left her deeply shaken.
