ABERDEEN MAN SENTENCED FOR OVER 24 HOURS OF CHILD SEXUAL VIDEOS
A man named Yu Jo Kristopher Wong has been identified as a sex offender after police uncovered over 24 hours worth of sexual videos of children on his devices.Wong was arrested on February 3 of the previous year, and authorities found hundreds of images and videos of children, mostly between the ages of two and twelve, collected over six years.
The incident was heard at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, where it was revealed that Wong also lacked empathy towards his victims.
Court reports indicated that Wong had been downloading and hoarding indecent images from August 14, 2014, until his arrest in February 2022.
He pleaded guilty to two charges — of taking or making indecent images of children and possessing such images.
Police sought a warrant after receiving intelligence from the National Online Child Abuse Prevention group, leading to a search of Wong’s Aberdeen home.
Officers seized multiple devices, including an 'HP Tower,' which contained over 500 images and 113 videos of children, with a total runtime exceeding 24 hours.
The court was told that the footage mainly featured underage girls.
Defence lawyer Andrew Ormiston described the images as mostly low-range material, suggesting Wong's behavior was the consequence of his social isolation and curiosity about certain types of material that eventually included minors.
The sheriff emphasized that these are serious crimes involving the creation and possession of indecent images of children, and noted Wong's lack of accountability, insight, and victim empathy.
Wong was also assessed as high risk for reoffending.
Despite the gravity of his actions, Wong cooperated initially with police.
As a sentence, Sheriff William Summer ordered Wong to undertake a three-year community payback order, including 180 hours of unpaid work and participation in the 'Moving Forward: Making Changes' programme.
Additionally, Wong was placed on the sex offender’s register for three years.
