ESSEX TEACHER ON TRIAL FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE AS MOTHER TESTIFIES
The trial involves south Essex music teacher Mark Yeldham, who is charged with four counts of sexual assault, based on allegations by a girl aged between 8 and 11, who accused him of repeatedly removing her underwear and touching her bottom.
The victim, now 16, testified that she could not recall if the abuse actually happened or not, but later confirmed she definitely remembered.
Her mother described her initial reaction of shock and her subsequent mental health deterioration, which led to her disclosing the abuse during a session with a counsellor.
The mother also testified about her questioning by a lawyer, who suggested her failure to report sooner was due to disbelief, to which she responded angrily, "Why shouldn’t I believe my kid?
I never had any issues with her.
She never lied to me.
Why shouldn’t I trust my kid?" The case continues, with the defendant denying the charges.
