ABERDEEN TEENS GUILTY OF ANIMAL CRUELTY AFTER VIRAL SNAKE ABUSE VIDEO
Yasmin Doherty, also known as Yasmin Walker, aged 19 from Aberdeen, Scotland, has admitted to animal cruelty after a video showing her abusing a snake went viral online. The Snapchat video captured Doherty and a group of friends drunk and laughing as they tortured and threw a boa constrictor on the street, causing unnecessary suffering to the animal.
Court papers stated that they 'caused the protected animal unnecessary suffering' while 'reasonably knowing' their actions would have that effect.
Doherty pleaded guilty along with Frankie-Jane Kane, who also admitted to causing suffering to the snake.
Esmeralda, the snake, managed to escape from a high-rise flat in Aberdeen, where Doherty lives, and was later found injured and handed over to police.
Despite being taken to a rescue center, the snake died hours later.
Doherty's actions were condemned by the Scottish SPCA chief inspector, who called the behavior 'despicable.' Both offenders are awaiting sentencing after social background reports were ordered by the court, with the case deferred until next month.
