BIRMINGHAM MAN YASIR ISLAM JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND EXPLOITATION
A Birmingham resident engaged in online sexual exploitation of more than a dozen young girls while he was bored, using his mobile phone in his bedroom.Yasir Islam, who was 23 at the time, targeted victims as young as ten via a video chat service, encouraging them to show private parts of their bodies while he performed sexual acts on camera.
He also recorded these exchanges and was eventually caught after he uploaded an indecent image of a child to Snapchat.
At Birmingham Crown Court on September 3, Islam was deemed a 'dangerous' offender and was sentenced to six years in prison, with an extended four-year license period.
The defendant pled guilty to five counts of causing or encouraging a child to engage in sexual activity and five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, all of which took place over a six-month period when he was 21 and 22.
He also admitted to five charges related to indecent images and one charge of communicating sexually with a child.
The police investigation was prompted after Snapchat reported that Islam had posted a Category A indecent image of a child on December 20, 2023.
Further inquiries linked his account to his address on Sandford Road, Moseley, leading to a police search.
Authorities recovered 161 indecent images and videos from his devices, including 21 Category A images, stored secretly.
Digital analysis revealed that he had used video chat websites to sexually exploit girls aged 10 to 15 years, capturing recordings and screenshots of these interactions.
In total, 16 victims were identified.
Despite having no prior convictions, his offenses were judged to be extremely serious, with the judge acknowledging his age and maturity at the time.
His defense counsel acknowledged his remorse, and Islam himself expressed shame and disgust for what he had done.
The court underlined the vulnerability of the children involved and highlighted how the exploitation took place in private, often secretly through mobile phones.
The judge also emphasized that Islam knew what he was doing and had intentionally planned his actions, which compounded the severity of his misconduct.
