BRUTAL PERTHSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR LIFE OVER ELDER'S SAVAGE MURDER
William Kean, aged 46, was found guilty of violently killing 80-year-old Jenny Methven at her home in Forteviot on 20 February. The court was told that Mrs Methven had sustained severe injuries, including a fractured skull resulting from multiple blows, with bone fragments embedded in her brain tissue.
Kean maintained his innocence and accused the victim’s son, David Methven, of committing the murder.
The judge, Lord Glennie, sentenced Kean to life in prison with a minimum term of 22 years before parole eligibility.
During the hearing, Kean showed no reaction as he was taken away.
Prosecutor Alex Prentice QC described the murder as 'savage and brutal,' emphasizing that such severity warranted a lengthy sentence.
Mr Methven expressed his grief, stating, “No verdict can bring my mother back or undo the horrific ordeal she suffered.” The investigation into the crime was one of the largest conducted by Tayside Police, involving roughly 80 officers.
David Methven found his mother injured in her cottage after returning from work and attempted resuscitation with CPR, though she was already dead when emergency responders arrived.
Kean also tried to shift blame onto David Methven but was ultimately convicted by the court.
