WILLIAM JONES FROM LLANFAIR CAEREINION SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN LLANFAIR CAEREINION
In August 2013, William John Jones, a 41-year-old resident of Minffordd, Llanfair Caereinion, was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.The disturbing case came to light after the young victim confided in her father about the assault, prompting immediate police involvement.
According to court reports, Jones engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl, an act that left her visibly shocked and distressed.
The girl, whose identity remains protected, initially chose not to disclose the incident to anyone out of fear and confusion.
However, she eventually confided in her father, who then took her to the police station in Newtown to report the crime.
During police interviews, Jones initially attempted to deny the allegations, claiming that the girl had climbed onto him and asserting that he believed she was 16 years old.
Prosecutor Oliver King highlighted the inconsistency in Jones’s claims, emphasizing that he would have known her age since she had recently celebrated her 15th birthday, making his assertion false.
Jones faced charges of two counts of sexual activity with a child, which included touching her intimately over her clothes and engaging in sexual intercourse.
In his defense, Paul Smith argued that Jones had shown remorse for his actions, stating, “The defendant has demonstrated his remorse and is disgusted with himself.
Throughout interviews he has acknowledged what happened and that he was wrong and to blame.” However, the presiding judge, Philip Hughes, was unequivocal in his condemnation.
He stated, “You knew she was 15 and the effect on her is something we cannot tell at this stage.
From her witness statement, she is lacking in confidence and is nervous because of what you did, and you did this while you were drinking and initially tried blaming the young victim for encouraging you.” As part of his sentence, Jones was sentenced to four years in prison and was placed on the sex offender’s register indefinitely.
Additionally, he was subject to a court order that restricts contact with children unless certain conditions are met, aiming to prevent any further harm.
