OFFENDER JAILED FOR SAVAGE DOMESTIC ASSAULT IN RUTHIN

William James Machin has been given a prison sentence of just over two years after he attacked a woman inside her home in Ruthin.

The assault happened on Sunday, August 6, in the afternoon, when Machin struck the woman in the face with a punch and then lifted her off the ground to continue his assault.

During the attack, he covered her face with a cushion, which hindered her breathing, and caused extensive damage to her property.

At the time of the incident, Machin, who resides on River Street in Rhyl, was on police bail with strict conditions not to contact the victim.

He pleaded guilty to charges of intentional suffocation, assault causing actual bodily harm, and criminal damage.

He was detained 15 minutes after the attack and remained in custody until his sentencing.

Caernarfon Crown Court sentenced him to two years, one month in prison.

Detective Constable Mike Taggart commented on the case, noting that a thorough investigation was carried out, consistent with the seriousness of the domestic violence incident.

He praised the victim’s resilience and reaffirmed law enforcement’s commitment to hold accountable those who commit violence against women and girls, stating, 'We are dedicated to pursuing offenders and ensuring justice for victims.'
