WILLIAM HOGGAN'S SHOCKING SEX OFFENSES IN SLAMANNAN SPARK OUTRAGE AND COURTROOM DRAMA

In May 1997, a disturbing case unfolded in Falkirk Sheriff Court involving William Hoggan, a 42-year-old lorry driver from Slamannan, Stirlingshire, who was found guilty of serious sexual offenses against a 14-year-old boy.

The incident drew significant public attention, with a large group of 57 anti-paedophile campaigners staging a noisy demonstration outside the court, prompting police to establish a security ring to maintain order during the proceedings.

Hoggan, described as a burly figure, sat with his head bowed in the courtroom after admitting to the charges.

The court was told that Hoggan had developed twisted sexual fantasies about the young boy prior to the attack, which occurred the previous year.

The prosecution detailed how Hoggan lured the teenage victim into his vehicle and committed two acts of gross indecency in secluded areas near Hoggan’s residence in Slamannan.

Valerie Barber-Fleming, the prosecutor, addressed the packed courtroom, stating, “The boy was approached by the accused and asked if he wanted to go for a run in his car.

The boy said yes.

He knows the accused.

His family know the accused.” The court heard that after the initial assault, the boy managed to run away.

Hoggan later approached him again, apologized, and claimed it would never happen again.

Despite this, Hoggan’s predatory behavior continued, and he drove the boy to another remote location where he committed further offenses.

Hoggan’s arrest came after police patrols intercepted him in the act.

Officers found him partially clothed, with the distressed boy present at the scene.

The police quickly intervened, bringing the disturbing episode to an end.

Sheriff Albert Sheehan described the case as “quite clear that this was a premeditated offence against a child,” emphasizing the gravity of Hoggan’s actions.

During the court proceedings, Hoggan’s defense attorney, David Glancy, argued that his client was suffering from personal hardships, including the loss of his wife, his job, and his home.

Glancy also mentioned that Hoggan was in need of police protection, highlighting the complex circumstances surrounding the case.

Nonetheless, the court sentenced Hoggan to three months in jail for his heinous crimes, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the community’s outrage over the incident.
