WAYNE WILSON GILBERDYKE AND HULL SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR 16 YEARS

In a harrowing case that has shocked the communities of Gilberdyke and Hull, Wayne Wilson, a 47-year-old van driver, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 16 years for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against two young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a decade, involved grooming, bribery, and systematic abuse of victims aged just seven and twelve, leaving lasting scars on their lives.

Wilson’s criminal activities first came to light after a second victim came forward in 2011, prompting police to reopen the case. It was revealed that Wilson had previously evaded justice in 2001 when one of the girls from Gilberdyke reported abuse, but her claims were not believed at the time. Despite this, Wilson continued his predatory behavior, targeting a second girl with gifts and manipulation, which ultimately led to his arrest and prosecution.

The sentencing took place at Hull Crown Court following a four-day trial. Judge Simon Jack, presiding over the case, described Wilson as a significant danger to the public, particularly to young girls. He stated, “I take the view you are a danger. You present a significant risk of causing serious harm to members of the public – namely young girls you come in to contact with. You systematically abused and degraded girls. You were opportunistically sexually abusing one girl and attempting to rape her.”

Judge Jack further criticized Wilson’s continued offending despite warnings from police. He explained that Wilson had been warned after his initial arrest in 2001 but persisted in his criminal behavior, grooming a second girl with gifts and threats. The judge emphasized the profound impact these crimes had on the victims, noting, “It has changed their lives in a very bad way.”

Wilson, who has a history of failed relationships and previously claimed to be a ladies’ man, showed no remorse during the trial. He sneered at the jury when found guilty of six counts of sexual activity with a child under 13 and one count of indecent assault. He was also convicted of two counts of attempted rape but was acquitted of two charges of rape due to the victim’s young age, which made it impossible to determine if penetration occurred.

Originally from Gilberdyke, Wilson had moved around and was arrested in Scotland, near the residence of his second victim. His address was listed as the Boulevard, Hull. Court records revealed that Wilson had prior convictions dating back to his teenage years, including two convictions at age 17 for indecent exposure and a more serious conviction in 1998 for indecent assault on a 17-year-old girlfriend, which resulted in a nine-month prison sentence.

During the trial, Wilson claimed to have behaved respectfully towards the victims, dismissing their allegations as fabrications. “I don’t know why they are making it up. I can make assumptions but I cannot narrow it down to one thing,” he stated. However, one of the girls testified that Wilson had assaulted her over twenty times in the bedroom and bathroom of an address in Gilberdyke. She recounted that he threatened her and offered money to keep her silent, describing her fear and the prolonged nature of the abuse, which lasted approximately a year and a half.

Judge Jack sentenced Wilson to 16 years in prison, with an extended license period of four years on parole. Wilson is not eligible for release until he has served at least two-thirds of his sentence. If he commits another offense, he faces a potential 20-year term. Additionally, Wilson was ordered to register on the National Sex Offenders’ Register for life and is permanently banned from working with children, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the risk he poses to society.
