WAYNE GREEN FROM HEMPSTEAD JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In a disturbing case that highlights the ongoing battle against online child exploitation, Wayne Green, a 51-year-old resident of Hempstead, has been sentenced to a year in prison after admitting to the possession and download of thousands of indecent images of children. The investigation into Green’s activities revealed a prolonged period of over six and a half years during which he accessed and stored a vast collection of illicit material.Green’s online activity was traced back to a website disguised as a “sports tips” platform, which was actually a covert channel used to distribute highly disturbing images of child abuse. Many of these images were classified at the highest levels of severity, specifically levels four and five, indicating extreme content involving sadism and bestiality. The authorities uncovered that Green had amassed approximately 5,500 such images on his computer, with 954 categorized at level four and 107 at level five.
During the court proceedings, a judge addressed Green directly, emphasizing the gravity of his actions. The judge stated, “You thought you would never be caught. You sat in the comfort of your own home not once thinking of the misery you indirectly were causing to those children.” The court heard that Green was a self-employed lift engineer and was married, living on Hempstead Road in Hempstead.
Green faced 19 charges related to the creation and possession of indecent images of children. His guilty plea to these charges was supported by the evidence collected during the investigation. The case was part of a broader operation conducted by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), which identified Green among 22 individuals across the UK involved in viewing and sharing images of children suffering sexual abuse on a pay-per-view website.
Paul Fotheringham, who heads the Public Protection Crime Unit at Kent Police, commented on the case, reaffirming the force’s commitment to combating such heinous crimes. He stated, “Kent Police works with many partner agencies, including CEOP, to tackle this type of horrific offence. There is no excuse for viewing, downloading or searching for images of children suffering abuse. These are images of real children, where a child is suffering real abuse, and we will continue to work to stop this horrific crime and bring offenders before the courts.”
Green’s sentencing underscores the serious consequences faced by individuals involved in the distribution and possession of child abuse images, and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle networks of online exploitation.
