WAYNE EVANS CAUGHT WITH £15K OF CANNABIS IN CARAVAN NEAR CASTLE ASHBY AND SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN

In a disturbing case that highlights both drug trafficking and child abuse, Wayne Evans, a 44-year-old man with a history of sexual offences, was found to be in possession of a substantial quantity of cannabis during his arrest. The police uncovered approximately £15,000 worth of cannabis, consisting of 21 bars weighing nine ounces each, along with electronic scales, inside Evans's caravan located at Castle Ashby fisheries.

Evans's arrest was triggered by a breach of bail conditions. He was on bail for previous offences involving two underage girls when authorities responded to a tip-off from a concerned mother. The police visited his caravan on June 7 and, during the arrest, discovered the large stash of cannabis. The bail condition explicitly prohibited him from associating with or having unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16, a restriction he was found to have violated.

Details of Evans's criminal history reveal a troubling pattern. He was previously on bail for indecent assault on a 10-year-old girl during a holiday in Spain in 2002. This offence only came to light when a 15-year-old girl made a similar complaint in 2005. The legal system had since adapted, allowing prosecutors to pursue charges for offences committed abroad. Despite these prior allegations, Evans was not prosecuted at the time, but the new charges and evidence led to his eventual conviction.

Prosecutor Pearl Willis outlined how Evans would often befriend vulnerable underage girls, some seeking protection, by offering treats, alcohol, and access to his computer while they stayed over at his caravan. Tragically, Evans exploited this trust, going on to sexually assault four girls aged between nine and 15 over a period spanning from 2002 to 2008. His methods often involved playing games with his victims before committing the assaults.

In court, Evans pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including indecent assault, sexual activity with a child, and three counts of sexual assault by touching. His sentencing was severe: he received three consecutive three-year prison terms, amounting to a total of nine years behind bars. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was subjected to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, which prohibits any unsupervised contact with individuals under 16.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Evans had been questioned in 2005 regarding allegations of sexual misconduct involving children. However, the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to pursue charges at that time. The judge, Charles Wide QC, expressed his condemnation, stating, “It is absolutely plain to me that you have a paedophilic interest in children and you seek out the company of children, some vulnerable and looking for support.”

Adding a bizarre twist to the case, Matthew Kirk, the defendant’s mitigation, claimed that Evans, who worked as a systems manager for a haulage firm, was merely acting as a custodian for the drugs, purportedly on behalf of an unnamed individual. This assertion was met with skepticism, given the evidence of Evans’s criminal history and the nature of the drugs found in his possession.
