REDDITCH MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ATTACK ON PARTNER
Wayne Braithwaite, a 48-year-old man, received a one-year jail sentence after admitting to a physical assault against his partner at their shared residence in Redditch.Court documents reveal that Braithwaite restrained Louise Taylor by grabbing her around the neck and then forcefully threw her onto the kitchen floor.
While on the floor, he straddled her, held her down, and proceeded to punch her.
Braithwaite, who has a history of domestic violence convictions, initially pleaded not guilty to causing actual bodily harm but changed his plea to guilty on the day of the trial.
Prosecutor Sally Cairns highlighted that Mr.
Carl Billington, who had recently moved into Miss Taylor’s home after responding to an advertisement for a lodger, overheard the disturbance and witnessed Braithwaite’s aggressive actions.
Mr.
Billington observed Braithwaite attack Miss Taylor by strangulation, throwing her to the ground, and then pinning and striking her.
As a result, Miss Taylor sustained lumps on her head, facial cuts, bruises, and scratches.
She was described as being in fear during the incident, prompting her to run outside for safety.
Braithwaite defended his actions by claiming self-defense, stating that Miss Taylor had struck him over the head.
His past includes a previous assault on Miss Taylor and eight convictions for causing actual bodily harm, dating back to 19 and 21 years ago.
The court also issued a restraining order that prohibits Braithwaite from contacting Miss Taylor or approaching within 100 meters of her home for two years.
