FORMER CPS BOSS WARREN GORING WHO STRANGLED WIFE DURING ROW OVER £10,000 SHOPPING CHANNEL DEBTS IS CLEARED OF HER MURDER
Warren Goring, 67, a former Crown Prosecution Service manager, was acquitted of her murder after a court verdict.Shirley, 63, was found dead at their home in Mundesley, Norfolk, on February 18 following an incident that Goring admitted to but claimed he did not intend to kill her and does not recall the incident.
Prosecutors argued that Goring had attacked his wife during a heated argument over their dire financial situation, which had culminated in a row over debts and spending.
He previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter and is due for sentencing.
During his police interview, Goring explained he was frustrated and did not remember the actual killing, saying, 'She was very, very upset and I was just getting more and more frustrated.
I was being accused of mismanaging money and making fools of us.' Court proceedings revealed that Goring had been facing eviction due to rent arrears of around £3,000.
Prosecutor Oliver Glasgow stated, 'The court heard that the couple was ‘broke, living beyond their means, about to be evicted and facing bankruptcy,’ and that Goring participated in a brutal attack, strangling his wife with his hands in a fit of rage.' The court noted that the couple had spent over £10,000 on women’s jewellery from television channel Sit Up Auctions since Goring’s retirement in 2008, which added to their financial troubles.
Goring, who worked for CPS Norfolk for 26 years, was arrested after police tracked his vehicle to King’s Lynn, and he told officers he was en route to the police station to discuss the incident.
His account suggests he lost control during a row, which ended with him strangling Shirley.
Despite his guilt, the jury found him not guilty of murder after deliberating for an hour and a half.
He was remanded in custody awaiting sentencing on a manslaughter charge.
