TEEN ASYLUM SEEKER JAILED FOR RAPE IN MIDLAND SHOP
After a night out at a Wetherspoon's pub, a 24-year-old woman went into a shop in the hope there may be a toilet she could use.But just a few hours later she was being taken to a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and told she may have HIV or hepatitis.
She'd been raped by teenage asylum seeker Wahidullah Hotak who was working behind the counter of the store in the Black Country market town of Wednesbury.
The 18-year-old Afghan national was declared a dangerous offender as he was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court for the attack, which took place on February 27 last year.
He fled his homeland and arrived in the UK in 2023.
Hotak has had one asylum claim rejected but is intending to appeal.
On Thursday May 7 Judge Simon Drew KC sentenced him to seven years in custody with an extended three-year licence.
The woman described her harrowing experience, her injuries, and the long-lasting impact on her mental health.
She now feels more vulnerable and scared around men, especially Asian men, and is struggling to cope with the trauma.
This case highlights the serious consequences of the attack and the subsequent legal outcome.
Hotak was found guilty of one charge of rape following a trial earlier this year.
