Leicester Sexual Abuser
Vijay Singh, a 43-year-old man residing on Oxford Street in Leicester, has been formally sentenced for a heinous sexual assault that resulted in severe injuries to a female victim and was classified as an attempted murder. The sentencing took place at Stafford Crown Court on June 17, 2016, where Singh received an indeterminate life sentence, ensuring he will spend the rest of his life on the Sex Offender’s Register.

Singh’s conviction followed an extensive eight-day trial held in May, during which the court found him guilty of attempted murder and sexual assault by penetration. The assault occurred the previous year at a location on King Street in Leicester, where the victim sustained multiple injuries, some of which were life-threatening. The attack shocked the local community and underscored the brutality of the crime.

During the investigation, Singh did not remain at the scene and fled with an accomplice, Balbir Singh, aged 50, who was a resident of Thurcaston Road, Leicester. Balbir Singh was subsequently convicted of aiding an offender and was sentenced to two years in prison for his role in assisting Vijay Singh to escape. The case drew significant attention from law enforcement, highlighting the seriousness of the offense and the dedication of the police in bringing the perpetrator to justice.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Walker, who was involved in the case, publicly commended the victim for their bravery and resilience throughout the investigation and trial process. She emphasized that the case exemplifies the severity of such crimes and the importance of thorough investigative work to ensure justice is served. The conviction and sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by violent offenders and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect the community.
