MAN JAILED FOR CAMPAIGN OF MADE-UP SEX CRIMES
A man who orchestrated an intricate and distorted scheme of deceit against another individual—containing false accusations of sexual offenses—has been sentenced to prison.Victor Wild, aged 32 from Mayfield Road in Harrogate, disseminated false information via social media platforms and email communications, in addition to submitting bogus reports to law enforcement concerning a man from Scarborough.
According to North Yorkshire Police, Wild initially entered a plea of not guilty at York Crown Court to charges of obstructing justice but later changed his plea to guilty.
On the occasion of his sentencing on Friday, he received a term of three years and four months behind bars.
The police spokesperson explained that Wild fabricated damaging allegations, employing fictitious names of supposed witnesses who claimed to have observed serious sexual offenses by the victim.
These false claims were reported to police, and he also attempted to persuade media outlets to publish these fabricated stories.
Officers noted that Wild masqueraded as a journalist conducting an inquiry into the accusations, contacting police to question why the alleged victim and another man were not detained.
Detective Inspector Tim Bentley of Scarborough CID stated, “Wild’s elaborate and warped campaign of lies caused extreme trauma to the victim, significantly affecting his mental well-being and daily life, as well as impacting those around him.
He added, “Wild also misused police resources and hours of officers’ time, diverting efforts from legitimate crimes.
I am glad he has been sentenced to a substantial prison term and exposed as the dangerous liar he is.” The police further stated that Wild was also charged with intentionally strangling a second individual but was acquitted of that charge.
A separate charge related to controlling and coercive behavior linked to the second victim was left on file.
Wild was also subject to restraining orders prohibiting him from contacting either victim, either in person or online.
