VENEZIA STRUDWICK FROM SUDBURY CONVICTED FOR ANIMAL ABUSE INVOLVING DOG JANA

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Sudbury, Venezia Marie Strudwick, born on November 13, 1994, and residing on Lucas Road, was found guilty of animal cruelty involving her pet dog, Jana.

The incident, which took place in early 2020, was brought to public attention after a witness recorded footage capturing Strudwick's aggressive treatment of her black German Shepherd named Jana.

On February 8, 2020, the RSPCA received a distress call from a concerned bystander who had observed and recorded Strudwick roughly handling her dog.

The footage clearly showed Strudwick shouting and swearing at Jana, while roughly yanking her by the lead as she was disposing of a rubbish bag into a bin.

The video further revealed that moments later, Strudwick delivered a forceful kick to Jana’s side, specifically targeting her ribs with the side of her foot.

This action caused Jana to yelp in pain, visibly distressed and subdued.

Following the incident, RSPCA inspector Nicky Thorne arrived at the residence to question Strudwick.

During the interview, Strudwick became notably aggressive, denying any involvement in kicking Jana despite the clear evidence.

Jana, who appeared subdued, was observed with her head and tail held low, indicating her distress and discomfort.

The inspector noted that Jana was carrying inflammation around her throat, which was confirmed during a veterinary examination.

Subsequently, on February 13, a team comprising another RSPCA inspector and police officers visited the address.

They seized Jana from Strudwick’s care and placed her under the protection of the welfare charity.

The veterinary check-up revealed that Jana had suffered physical injuries, including inflammation around her throat, likely caused by the abuse she endured.

Strudwick faced charges under the Animal Welfare Act, to which she pleaded not guilty.

However, after a trial, she was found guilty of the offence.

The court imposed a ban on her from keeping any animals until December 2023, with the exception of fish.

She was also ordered to pay a total fine of £735.

Magistrates emphasized that Strudwick was fortunate to avoid a prison sentence, given the severity of her actions.

Since her rescue, Jana has remained in the care of the RSPCA, awaiting a new home with owners who have no other pets and can provide her with positive training and a safe environment.

Inspector Thorne expressed relief and satisfaction that Jana is now free from fear, highlighting the importance of understanding pet behavior and the dangers of physical abuse.

Thorne stated, “It is never acceptable to physically abuse your dog,” underscoring the broader message of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.

In summary, Venezia Strudwick’s case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of animal cruelty, with the community of Sudbury watching closely as justice was served in this troubling incident.
